For our final conversation in 2021, Luke chats with Devin Dabney, who is a Senior Contributor to The Climbing Zine. Devin is a poet, rapper, essayist, and host of the American Climbing Project podcast. In this conversation Devin and Luke “nerd out” on the intersection of hip-hop and climbing, as well as the writing process, and why essays and books are more important now more than ever.
He also discusses his personal experiences as being a Black climber in rural areas in the United States. And we talk about “American Outlaw” culture and the racial differences between these different groups. Plus, we realize Devin needs his own TV show, ala Killer Mike and “Trigger Warning”.
